This short article's purpose is to provide you with an overview of the subject. Details will be covered in each module in this KB.

The Routes Module
1. The Route Module

Our Route module has 4 sections to provide you a comprehensive look at all of your Routes and their completion.


· The Live Data section: where we can view a snapshot of your routes and their current progression, by Activity and Status.


· The Manage section: where you create, edit and manage all of your routes.


· The Activities section: where you maintain your Activities.


· The Operations Status: where you can get a snapshot of your route’s overall progression and completion status by selected activity.

1.1. Live Data Section

On the Live Data page, you see in the upper portion of the window, we provide pie chart graphs that give you the statistics on all of your Routes. In the bottom section of this window, we provide all of the Routes, within the Grid provide the Name of the current routes and their Activity, examples are Mowing, Spreading. We display the routes Current Status, examples are Enabled , Navigating and Stopped and you will see the latest updated timestamp. We also provide the Current Progress for each route along with other details that include the Operators name, the Equipment name, the amount Done on the current route along with the Total Duration, which is the amount of time it took the operator to complete the route.



In Live Routes list portion, we can select one of the routes such as the Pinnacle Parkway and view the routes latest executions.

1.1.1 Route Executions

By selecting a route from the Grid section below (such as Pinacle Parkway in the demo platform) will display the list of all the Route Executions (trips) that have been completed for the selected route.

We provide Dashboard graphs similar to those on the main page, we show the Progression (Completed vs Incomplete) and the Vehicles Stats, along with the Total Duration and any reported Feedback from an operator.



From the list of Trip histories, if we select a Route execution from the Grid View, you will see the following:

1. On the map we display Route Execution and in the right column the Route information:

Start/end date, Activity performed, Equipment used, Trip duration and Distance, the Progression and any Reported Feedback reported by the Operator. You can see one on the map.

2. Just below you can toggle on the sliders to show Feedback or Particularities.
  1. A Feedback are the details added by the operator from the tablet when he encounters something along his route and the feedback is sent back to the platform in Realtime.
  1. A Particularities (are Special Instructions added by a Supervisor for the Operator to follow on his route)
  1. The Display History (allows you to Replay the route), in doing so, the route will display the GPS trace overtop of the current route.

3. On the map you will view the route with GREEN and BLUE segments

  1. If we look at the Legend at the bottom, you can determine on screen which sections (segments) of the route that have been completed (Green) and which are yet to complete (Blue).

4. Display GPS history and Replaying the Trip

Displaying the History will display the GPS Trace the vehicle made along his route.
  1. If you wish to replay the route using the Replay button - you can replay the Trip history, you have playback speeds from Normal speed up to 100X.

 

5. By selecting any telemetry point along the route.

You will open a dialog box with the detailed information collected by the G09 device will be listed in a details box, such as the Vehicle info, the Telemetry info, the Route info and possibly the Activity information (if there was an Activity assigned).

 

6. Demonstrate options such as Functions (via the Search)

You can select and view among the items, such as the Functions, via the drop-down menu. If we select the option Functions, and by looking the LEGEND below you can confirm where on the MAP certain functions were active, For example on North of Windermere Rd route, we can determine where the vehicle was just (moving or scraping) and whether the spreader status was in in auto mode or was in blast mode along the route via the color-coded segments, similar to what you can view on the Live Map - Legends.
  1. Orange segments along the route indicate the Spreader as in Auto mode
  2. Red segments are segments in which the spreader was in Blast mode.

 

You can view all of the key LEGENDs directly on the LIVE MAP, such as you Vehicle History (GPS trace line), the AGE legend (passes within defined time slots and all of your vehicle functions on the FUNCTIONS legend

This concludes the Live Data section.

1.2. Manage Section (Route Management)

If we select the Manage section, here you will view the list of all the created routes here.

 

1. You can Search Routes: You can search for a mowing route by using the Search at the top right of the Grid.

2. You can Order Routes by Type: you can DRAG any column header like Activity into the Drag your column here location and it will group them by Activity, simply drag it back to go back to the list.

  1. All routes in the grid are now categorized by their Activity type.

To return the Grid back to normal, simply drag it back to the column and you will return to the list.

You can Disable any filters: If you applied aby filters, you can Disable all filters - simply by clicking on the reddish orange funnel and any applied filters will be disabled and removed.


The Types of routes you can create in the Route Module:

There are 2 main types of Routes we can create in the Route module, the Linear (Draw Mode) route and a Free Run route:

1. Draw Mode Route – is a Linear Route type route with navigation instructions.

2. Free Run Route - This route type is for when we do not want to provide any specific navigation instructions to the operator, we only want to know which segments are completed or not. We allow the route to be completed in any manner without specifying any instructions. (e.g. Turn left, turn right) and is up to the operator to navigate the route.

3. From Tasks Route – You can also create tasks (work order route) for Work Operations like repairing Potholes, Broken Street or Stop signs, Snow clearing around bus shelters, etc. Simply create a task route to send a crew out to repair the requested tasks. Note: You can also convert an Operator's feedbacks into tasks, then create and dispatch a task route.

4. From Vehicle History - You can send an operator with a Tablet and a G09 device and drive a snow route and then we can import the vehicles GPS trace from the driven route and create it into a route.

Note: with a Linear Route we provide the Operational and Special instructions to the operator (Slow down, entering a school zone) along with our navigational instruction (In 75m Turn right on Elm Street) with a Free-Run route, we only provide the Operational and Special instructions to the operator, drivers are free to navigate the route using their knowledge of the route.

1.2.1. Creating a Linear Route

You can click on the ADD menu below and start creating a linear route yourself.

1. Go to the Add menu at the bottom of the page and select a Draw Mode – type route.

2. To Start a route, go to a location on the map where you want to create your route:

· Start by clicking at the beginning of any street or beginning of an intersection to add your 1st point and from there keep clicking along the outside perimeter of the street, going with the flow of traffic.




3. Ending your Route: As you have completed your route outline you simply "Double Click" with the last point to end the route.


4. Edit your Route: After you complete the route outline, you can always edit the route simply by left clicking on a yellow point and dragging it to a new position around your route. repeat the process until you have your new route’s shape.

 

5. To Edit a saved route: If you want to further edit your route to continue it, click on the Route icon and then click on the Edit icon on the toolbar and you can Edit the route. Make any changes and then click Save.

 

1.2.1.1. Information you will need to enter within the ROUTE TAB

To Enable or Disable Route Status
After you have completed your route structure you have to Enable the Route for it to be seen for the Operator in the tablet.
  1. On the Route Tab, under Status, select Enabled in the drop-down menu.
  2. If the route is set at Disabled, you will not be able to view the route in the tablet.

Select the Primary Operation for your Route

In the Primary Operation drop-down menu select the Primary Route Operation.

Provide a Route name, Activity Type and Group Type.

You can provide a descriptive Name for your route, select the Activity type and chose if the route belongs to one of your Groups.

Set the route to Resettable.

Set the Priority, the Speed and choose a Route Color, set the Direction <-- or --> and click on Save.

Setting the Primary Operations on your Route Segments on the map.

By selecting the Segments button and the Add allows you to set the primary operating instructions that defines the segments instructions of the route that are sent to the Operator via the Tablet.

On the map, select the Segment(s) for an Operation:

On the Toolbar and click on the Segment icon then select a segment or segments along your route where you want the operator to perform a specific Operation or Function, next in the right column under Primary Operation, select the operation in the dropdown list (e.g. Scraping, Plow, sweeping, etc.), then click the Save button to save your progress

Note: The Primary Operation that you select defines the segment instructions that you will send to your Operator in their tablet.

Setting a Particularity (Special Instruction) operator will view on the tablet.

Set a Particularity (Special Instruction) by clicking on the Exclamation icon and then the Add icon on the toolbar and then click the spot on the route where you would like the Operator informed with the Special Instruction.

Adding Details for the Particularity, in the right panel:
1. Checkbox to Include in Route or Include in All Routes
2. Type in a Particularity name
3. Toggle the Voice instruction to On / Off.
4. Enter in the Instructions- the information that the Operator will see (e.g. Plow up Here, School zone, etc.)
5. Click the Save button.

* Particularities are special Instructions that the Operator will see on his Tablet.

1.2.2 Running the Linear Route on the Tablet

Instructions on how to Log in to the tablet.

1. Log In The operator will log onto his tablet, enter his PIN, select his vehicle. We have My Vehicles section as we have a planning tool that allows us to assign a vehicle(s) to the operator to execute some routes.

2. Selecting the Routes icon will open the available routes page where the operator can select his route. You have My Routes and you have Other Routes. In our example our created route was called Spreading Sample, so we will select this route.
Note: The green dot indicates the start of the route and the red, indicated the end of the route.
3. Click the Start button. The Route will start and display the instructions to the Operator.4. The Navigation instructions (in 25m ↑ Sunnyside Court) are displayed at the top left of the tablet screen.5. The Operation (Special Instructions) (e.g. Spreading), are displayed at the bottom left.6. The Particularities (Special Instructions - e.g. Plow up here) are also displayed in the bottom left and will be announce by vocal instructions will play as you near them. So, it is very easy for the operator, they simply need to log in, select a route and follow the instructions.
How the Operator can Add a FeedBack
If the operator would like to report something the operator can click on the Report icon the operator can report what we call a Feedback (e.g. Pothole, Collision, Raised manhole). If the operator signals a Feedback (e.g. Vehicle Obstruction), it will be automatically reported in real-time to the platform.

The fleet supervisor can view the Feedback LIVE on the Live Map.

If you click on the Feedback, you will have all the details logged, (e.g. the Feedback name, the Date and time timestamp, the operator, the vehicle, the route name, the Address) where the Feedback was added.
Note: We use reverse geocoding to provide the address.

A Return to Route feature: If you have to stop your current route (your current progression) on the predefined route, for any reason, (had to go and refuel) the Progression is Off message will appear on the tablet, you can simply click on Return to the last Progress button. We provide this button when an operator is far from the last position (at the municipal garage) to tell the application, give me a route from my current position location to the beginning of the route that I will execute.

1.3.1. Creating a Free Run Route

We also provide another type of route called a Free-run Route. This route type does not have any specific navigational instructions (like turn left, turn right), so it is up to the operator to run the route in his own way. We are only monitoring the segments completion as the driver completes the route. Drivers can complete a route as they seem fit. As the route is being completed, all of the route segments will turn green.

When creating the Route, we simply create a segment line between streets and intersections, none of the segments are connected.


Setting the Primary Operations and Particularities (Special Route instructions) remain the same as when we created for a linear route.


1.3.2 Running the Free- Route on the Tablet

For demonstration purposes in our Rasters.io demo, we can just show a Free Run Route such the North Windermere Rd which is an existing Free run route that demonstrated there are 2 vehicles actually executing on the route.

We are able to see the actual position of each vehicle in real-time and view the actual completed segments by each other operator. This is very useful when you have a very large route, and you have 2 or 3 operators covering the route and your able to view what is actually done or not.


1.4.1. Creating a From Vehicle History Route

You can create a route from Vehicle’s History. If you don’t have any GIS routes already ready or you can have your your best operator is perform his route, you can give him a tablet (+ sim) and a G09 device and ask him to go out and drive the route (a scraping route) and he run the route. We will get the GPS trace from that trip that will automatically build that route.

1.5.1. Create a route by Importing a GIS route

You can also import a route via Import button. If you have an IT department or GIS department with routes in ESRI or any other format you can provide us your route in JeoJSON or Shapefile and we are able to integrate and import the route directly in our application.

1.6.1. Creating a Tasks Route

Another way to create a route from Add - Tasks Route button. As a Task route is often used for municipal operations such as repairing potholes, broken signs. Etc.

The Feedback from operators can be converted directly into tasks and from there, we can create a Work Order type Tasks route.


 

1.3. Activities Section

You have your Activities section where you have to define your own Activity or Activities for the Routing Module.

For example: Scraping may be an Activity, Snow removal is another Activity, Street Sweeping is another activity. So, all of your Activities you want to manage with the platform you just Add a new one. Enter in an Activity name and save it.

1.4. Operations Status Section

The Operation Status allows us to select between different Activities (e.g. Waste Management, Street Sweeping, Snow removal, etc.) and the various Routes and then view the Overall Progression of all the selected Routes and each individual Route.

Activities drop down: is the list we can select amongst the other Activities you may have, (e.g. Scraping, Spreading, Snow removal, etc.).

Routes drop down: Once you have selected an Activity (e.g. scraping) you can use the Routes drop down list to select which of the available routes you which to display on the map by selecting the route check box.
